Study and Work in Australia

Study and Work

Study
Choose Study? Choose Australia!

Studying in Australia saves money–living expenses and tuition costs are much less than in the UK or USA.

Australia’s academic year changes depending on the institution, with applications for many tertiary courses closing in October the year before studies commence. Some institutions offer mid-year intakes for particular courses. Knowledge of the English language is a prerequisite for International Students to enter mainstream institutions. English language courses have more frequent student intakes.

Most universities provide on-campus accommodation or can help students find a place to live. If you’re a full-time student you qualify for a range ofconcessions, including discounted travel and cinema tickets.

Work
Chosen Study, Chosen Australia...Need Work?

Once you’ve got your student visa, there are plenty of working opportunities. There are numerous employment agencies matching people with a variety of jobs: from banking and finance positions to callcentre work, multimedia, fruit-picking, nannying, nursing, hospitality and catering etc.

Open a bank account and get a Tax File Number (TFN) from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) before you start work. If you don’t have a TFN, nearlly half of your income will be taxed! For further information on TFN visit the Australian Taxation Office website.

For something different, or to gain further experience, volunteer to help organic farming with Willing Workers On Organic Farms (WWOOF).
